Charles Robert Underdown Sr., 73, of Athens, died Friday, June 5, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A son of the late Pad and Irene Thompson Underdown, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Taffy June and Mary Annette Underdown; one sister, Aileen Morgan; and two grandchildren, T.J. and Samantha Richardson. He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Mayfield Dairy.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Otella Elliott Underdown of Athens; four daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Bobby Corbin of Englewood, Robin and Tony Walker of Riceville, Teresa Wilson of Athens, and Missy and Tim Richardson of Riceville; one son, Charles Underdown Jr. of Athens; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nephews; and two aunts.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Ogle Wattenbarger officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Chris Martin, Charlie Underdown, Adam Wilson, Caleb Gossett, Ed Delzell and Billy Goodman.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
