He served in Europe, in World War II, and in the Korean War. He was a member of the 278th RTC, and was a retired colonel with the Tennessee State Guard Headquarters in Cleveland. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, and was the Veterans Service Officer in McMinn County. He was a Mason and a Shriner, and was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 64 Years, Evelyn Simmons Miller; one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Gary Sanderson; grandchildren, Mindy and Joe Crisp, Billy and Alicia Krebs, Joshua Krebs and Emma Sanderson; great-grandchildren, Ada, Natalie, Gabe and Freya; and many friends, including Scott Krebs.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Lyons View Road in Knoxville with the Rev. Wendy Neff officiating. Full military honors will follow.
